Your Camping Equipment Checklist when You want to Pack Light

There's no doubt that going camping involves a lot of packing and equipment. If you want to pack light with just the essentials, here are the items that you should keep on your camping equipment checklist.

  • Bring a first aid kit that can handle mild cuts, scrapes and sicknesses.
  • Make sure you have emergency shelter equipment such as a tarp or reflective blanket.
  • Pack an extra day's supply of food, including energy bars and trail mix.
  • Keep hydrated with water bottles.
  • Keep warm with an insulated vest or jacket.
  • Matches and other fire starters are important.
  • A compass and map will keep you on the right track.
  • Bring a flashlight and spare batteries.
  • An emergency repair kit containing duct tape and a multi-tool kit can come in handy.
  • Pack lots of sunscreen and bug repellent.

Four Ideas for Choosing Interior Paint Color

A new interior paint color can update the look of your home. If you've got some great aspirations but are short on ideas, here are some things to consider when choosing interior paint color.

  • Add a deep, rich hue to a gathering area, like the dining room for added drama.
  • Use a similar color palate for rooms that flow into each other such as an open kitchen. Choose an interior paint color that is just a few shades from the other color, so the two will blend well.
  • If you have an open floor plan, create specific zones by painting certain walls different hues.
  • To create a new look with a contemporary feel, try accenting interior doors or create an accent wall.

How to Choose Snow Blowers

A driveway full of snow can be very daunting. Save time and backache by using a snow blower. Snow blowers come in three main types: two-stage gas, single-stage gas, and single-stage electric.

  • Two-stage gas snow blowers are ideal for long driveways, hilly driveways and gravel driveways. They tend to be heavier and more expensive. Some large snow blowers have an extra component that chops or breaks up the snow and feeds or blows it back into the blower mechanism. They are used to for bigger snow clearing jobs or for snow removal after a heavy snowstorm.
  • Single-stage gas snow blowers are ideal for flat driveways that are mid-sized. They are moderately priced and sized.
  • Single-stage electric blowers work best on flat, short driveways with low levels of snowfall. They tend to be more affordable and more compact than the other types of snow blowers.

Some snow blowers are considered attachments as they fit onto an already existing piece of machinery, such as a farm tractor or other similar vehicle. Attachment-type snow blowers can clear an area faster than conventional, "stand alone" snow blowers.

Make sure you're comfortable with the handle height and the chute adjustment when purchasing a snow blower, as you will handle those frequently. Remember that performance is more important than sheer horsepower when it comes to selecting a snow blower.

Pet Supplies for Travel

Traveling with your pet can be much simpler with the right pet supplies. Pet supplies such as pet carriers are one essential part of airplane flights or road trips with your pet. There are a few other options to consider as well.

Pets can travel as carry-on baggage or in the cargo area of the plane, depending on the breed and size of your pet. Check the airline you're flying with for restrictions and size requirements regarding pet carriers. Soft carriers may work for inside the plane cabin, but if you have to check your pet in as baggage, you should place him in a hard-sided carrier.

For the road, consider putting your pet in a pet carrier. You can find ventilated pet carriers that have attachment points to the vehicle seatbelt for additional safety. In the event of an accident, a pet carrier that is secured to the vehicle will help prevent your companion from being thrown around or out of the car.
